Greek Week Champs!

This has been a crazy, hectic week, but TOTALLY worth it! I am proud to say that ZTA won Wofford's Greek Week competition this year!

We've won for the past 21 years (if you count tying with Theta two years in a row) and it was such a relief to keep the record going strong! That's how I'm explaining my absence for the past week.. things have been absolutely non-stop!

I'm sure a lot of you have participated in Greek Week before, but if not, I'll recap what we do at Wofford. It's a week that ironically uses competition to unite sororities and fraternities in Panhellenic and Interfraternal brother and sisterhood. There are competitions throughout the week and events that members of Greek groups must attend in order to get points. For example, Monday we all signed cards for our major professors and attended a speaker who talked to us on using our Greek membership to achieve. Thursday was one of the most fun days... the fraternity cookout and Lip Sync competition!

All sorority and fraternity members head down to The Row, which is our fraternity row on campus where all the houses are. We had burgers from the famous restaurant The Beacon and got ready to see all the sororities perform. Girls practice for weeks to perform in the Lip Sync competition, which is a performance by each sorority of a mix of songs that pertain to a certain set theme. This year the theme was Olympics/sports, and I decided I wanted to dance! Here's the video of our performance that won FIRST PLACE! (Look for me at about 40 seconds at the far left in the turquoise workout top!)

I am so proud! We worked hard on our performance and I thought it was great and even a little funny!

The week concluded with Penny Wars on Friday, and we ended up getting second place! Basically the object is to get as many pennies as you can in your jar, but the other sororities are able to put "silver" in your jar that acts as negative points. We raided all the banks in Spartanburg to get bricks of pennies (worth $25) and even broke a table with our huge stash of pennies! We never do well in penny wars because a lot of times the other groups unite against us, but we did relatively well this year!

On Saturday, the week concludes with Greek Games, which is basically field day for college kids! There is a tug of war, a "keg roll",  a softball throw, relay races, and a sack race, just to name a few events. I didn't participate but I had a great time painting up, cheering on my sisters, and taking photographs as we took win after win! ZTA won Greek Games and then it was announced at the end of the day that we won Greek Week overall! We were so excited! It was a fun week but also very long. Schoolwork got put on hold so it's back to the grind this week... but this is my last week until Spring Break! More on that to come! Here are a few more pictures from Greek Week!

ZTA Vice President and President!

Found one of my Orientation Staff kids! He knows what's up!

I love these girls!!

My little is one of my very best friends.

My ZTA friends after our victory!
Hope you all had a great week!

Out with the old, in with the new... clothes!

Springtime has come to South Carolina!

I spent all Friday afternoon laying out in Nike shorts and a tank top, reading magazines and soaking up the rays on campus with some of my very dear friends. I feel like we skipped spring and went straight to summer, but I don't hate it! I am currently at home doing the big wardrobe swap to bring back some shorts and sundresses to replace the sweaters and jackets I lugged home!

I am so excited to wear my Jack Rodgers, Lilly sundresses, and J Crew shorts! Now all I need is a little healthy color on my skin to pull it all together! I've been doing some online browsing and am trying to save up some money to spend over Spring Break (in 2 weeks!!) to spend out the outets when I hit the beach with my girl friends.

Check out these beauties from Pinterest I'm going to use for inspiration when shopping:

so boho. love it.

want mint skinnies... now.
love all these basics- classic but so chic.
a mix of preppy and boho... I can dig it.
As I go through my spring and summer wear, however, I've found I have a lot of things that I just don't wear, or are too short, and I would love for someone to have them to actually wear them! I've got a few nice Ralph Lauren and Lacoste polos as well as a few skirts that need some love! That being said, I'm trying to figure out if I want to have a blog sale, and how to go about doing one!

Anyone with any tips or suggestions for me? Have ya'll been successful if you have done a blog sale? Any input is welcome!

.... like I have done most of this week.

You see, I thought I was doing well in my college career, considering until this week I have not gotten majorly sick (not including a cough or allergies) at all in my last three years at Wofford. There has been a bug going around school which I was unfortunate enough to catch. I was lucky to have been spared actually getting sick, but I felt crappy and exhausted/fatigued for three days straight, napping in my (twin) bed every free moment. I skipped three classes (an abomination for me!), meetings, and I am currently playing catch up with quite a bit of work as I struggle to study for a midterm I must take tomorrow.

However, with my visit to health services tomorrow and a whopping 11 hours of sleep last night, I feel 100% better this morning. I legitmately showered (and shaved my legs... whoop whoop), got dressed in nice clothes, attended a career week luncheon (and managed to eat real food!), and am going to be well enough to attend my afternoon class.. yay! Small victories, my friends.

I'm going to take it easy this weekend and try to get caught up and also work ahead on some assignments because next week begins GREEK WEEK and goodness knows my life does not belong to me, but to ZTA during that time.

I am astounded at the amount of love, support, and positive thoughts I received from my family, friends, and blog friends during my time of misery this week. I loved receiving texts and tweets knowing I was thought of and that prayers for my recovery were being sent up. So thank you if this applies to you! :)

I woke up revitalized this morning with a whole new appreciation for my health, energy, and happiness. I will not soon take for granted how lucky I am to have good health and an awesome immune system to keep me running every single day. I'm feeling back to normal, and I'm so happy about it. Here's to your own health and happiness! :)

workout wear!

First of all, I wanted to say thank you to you all for your sweet, sweet comments on my formal pictures! Each one makes my day! I love hearing from  you all!

I'm starting to get into a real workout schedule, and it's great! I feel a lot better, sleep hard at night, and love that I can eat what I want and not worry about it! So totally worth it! But want to know the best part of working out? No, not necessarily the "good ache" of muscles, or finding a new song that pushes you to the next mile... but the fun outfits you can wear! Currently this is my workout outfit:

Here's what I'm eying to spice up my workout routine a bit!

Running Shoes
My friend Martha has these shoes and I'm obsessed. I love the bright blue, and they look so light. These even have the Nike iD feature that allows you to track your run with your iPod- too legit. They might be my next investment!

Colorful Nike Shorts

Every college girl's staple. Now, for the most part I always make an effort to look nice for class, but as of late, with the weather being nice, I have found myself throwing on a ZTA shirt and picking from my collection of Nike running shorts. I wish I could have every color! The upside to wearing that kind of outfit is that for me, getting dressed to workout is half the battle, so I'm more likely to hit the gym! These Nike Tempo shorts are comfortable, breathable, and so much fun!

Exercise Tanks
I love working out in a big t-shirt, but there's just something about looking "together" with a cute tank and shorts that match. Makes me feel so much more athletic! And it's how you feel that counts, right?!
1) Victoria's Secret
2) Puma
3) Nike
4)Victoria's Secret

These are just a few of my picks for some fun workout wear to inspire you! Now let's hit the gym!

Formal and other fun things!

So I feel as if there aren't many exciting things going on in my life right now, but I was so excited to have fun this weekend, take a break from work, and go to ZTA Formal!

what's left of my pledge class- so many of my friends are abroad!
I usually go for the long dresses, but a lot of girls keep it relatively casual and do more cocktail-y attire, so I decided to do the same. I went with a coral orange (even though it looks red in the photos) dress from that I got for a steal. I unfortunately had to get it taken in and the zipper removed, which added to the price, but it was so worth it. I was so comfortable the whole night and had a great time! It came with a cute stretchy gold accent belt and I accessorized with gold bangles, and added some turquoise to make my favorite summery color combination!

the former and current roomies!

With ACM abroad, this was the first function I had to legitimately find a date and go out of my way to ask them- it was weird! I asked a friend from classes who lives on my hall to go with me and he was a wonderful date! We had fun hanging out with our mutual friends and dancing to the band... pretty sure every song they played I said, "I love this song! Let's dance!" Anyone else always do that?! :)
Sim's first ZTA function!
by this time I had given up on my hair looking good!

Ryann's List of Songs for a Successful Function:
"Brown Eyed Girl"
"Boogie Shoes"
"Get Down On It"
"Brick House"
"Carolina Girls"
....and many more!

I had a great weekend. I really wish ACM had been here to share formal with, but he will be back soon enough! We're just over the halfway mark until he gets home from Italy and I am so excited! Soon enough I will do a blog about long distance and study abroad relationships, because I feel like I've learned so much this semester!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Joy Prom

This past week I had the privilege of volunteering at Wofford's Joy Prom, put on by a wonderful classmate of mine as a project for her scholarship program. If you've never heard of the concept of Joy Prom, check out the link. It's about the first Joy Prom, held in Charlotte NC as a church initiative.

Callie decided to take this idea and bring it to the Wofford community as a way to really reach out to the special needs students of Spartanburg... and wow, did she do a great job. Basically, Joy Prom is a prom, a big night out, for special needs students of high school (and slightly older) age.

These students are treated like royalty on the big night. Each student is matched up with an Wofford escort for the prom, who caters to their every need as they take pictures, eat yummy food, and dance the night away. Boys wear tuxes and girls wear sparkly, fun, dresses.

I unfortunately was unable to commit to being a date, but I did serve as a member of the paparazzi who took pictures of the students and their Wofford dates as they strutted down the red carpet on their way to the party. For a lot of these kids, this is the highlight of their year. The only time they are in the spotlight, and it is all about them. Even before the students arrive at the prom, girls are pampered by getting their hair and makeup done, and boys get a complimentary shoe shine! Here are a few pictures of some of my friends and their dates on the red carpet:

After my duty as photographer was over, I wandered inside to watch all the fun. A Wofford student with some DJ-ing talents blasted Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and other fun beats as all attendees laughed, sang, jumped around, and smiled. I cannot even describe to you all how full my heart was, watching all these kids have the time of their lives. There was so much love in that room, and seeing their faces light up was a wonderful reminder that these kids really aren't much different than we are. I strongly encourage you to watch this video that is the news report on the event- it really gives you a sense of how wonderful the night was.

What a wonderful reminder not only count your blessings, but be joyful in all circumstances!

Confessions, Part I

Ya'll.... I'm sorry.

I have epicly failed at blogging for the past... I don't know how long. I sincerely apologize for my absence, but I've just kind of been in a blogging funk. Anyone ever experienced this? It's not that I'm super busy, which is usually the case for me not keeping up. I've just sort of been uninspired, feeling like anything I would say isn't really worth reading. Keeping up a blog is hard work, and I never knew that until I started really staying on top of mine. That being said, I have so much respect for all of you blog friends out there and all the time, thought, passion, and effort you put into each post!

I'm going to try my best to be better, because I love reading all of your posts and it makes me a tad jealous you guys are all blogging away and doing fabulously! I think I just needed some time away to get over my blogger's block, and a little inspiration to get going again. So, this is all just to say, I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. I'm not giving up blogging. I just need a little inspiration and encouragement sometimes! And when you need inspiration, where do we all look?! .... PINTEREST!

Thank you all for bearing with me and being so wonderful! I shall get momentum going again, soon!

xoxo, ryann
