{Learning to be the Light} on long distance

While I am soaking up the sun and fun in Virginia Beach, my sweet friend Sasha was wonderful enough to guest post for me! She was a guest blogger while I was traveling in Australia and New Zealand this summer, and I just had to have her back! She's done some awesome re-vamping to her blog that I am super impressed with. Go check her out, she'll be your new favorite!  Remeber when my boyfriend was abroad? Well hers is working in Atlanta this summer and next semester, so she's learning to hand a LDR like I did!

Hey! I'm Sasha from {Learning to be the Light} and i'm so excited to be participating in a guest post while Ryann is away!  When she asked me to guest post she gave me free reign to talk about whatever i'd like with you guys, whew, where to start?

I decided I'd talk about something I'm experiencing right now,
I'm no long distance pro, nor have I even been dating long distance for a really long time.  But I have in a short time learned some very interesting and helpful tips to make dating long distance a better and more beneficial experience.
  1. Trust I can't say this enough, trust trust trust.  If you're dating long distance and you guys don't trust each other it really is going to be a stressful separation spent snooping and worrying about what your significant other is up too.
  2. Communication so important.  It's important to talk as much as possible, whether that be every day, every other day, or once a week.  But it's not just talking, or aimlessly listening to a conversation of the phone.  It's meaningful conversation filled with encouragement, compassion, and interest.
  3. Get face to face this one isn't possible for everyone, but can ease the pain that distance creates by seeing your significant other. Skype and face-time are two wonderful creations that make getting face to face much easier.
  4. Stay tuned in this one I touched on in communication, but it's so important.  Keep up with important dates, like tests, interviews, projects and remember to encourage him (or her) in their endeavors. Always be uplifting, even though you're not around them every day, this encouragement will keep them motivated and confident in whatever they do.
  5.  Sacrifice, it's necessary. You may not want to be the one to leave your friends for a weekend to visit each other, but it's important to keep things fair. You can't always expect your significant other to come see you, work out a system. Seeing each other is important, within reason, and visiting gives you an opportunity to explore the life that they're creating wherever they are.
I know there is so much more to learn about dating long distance, and although it is tough it gives each of you an opportunity to grow.  Not to mention, when you're living two separate lives you always have something to talk about!

Hope this helps if you're dating long distance, and if you've been there and done that, this girls always taking tips and advice for long distance dating.

Top 5 Tuesday: Celebrity Crushes!

I am so excited to do this linkup with my sweet friend Rachel over at Just Peachy! It's been forever since I've done one but this one should be super fun!

I have many celebrity crushes. In fact, I have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to them... yeah. Whenever I talk about a celebrity crush, ACM just rolls his eyes at me and pretends to get mad, especially considering I hate on him for thinking Scarlett Johansson is cute... (really?! ugh). I guess I can't have double standards though, ha!

So, without further delay (in no particular order), I present:

My Top 5 Celebrity Crushes!

Justin Bieber
via
You can make fun. I know he's, like, only 18 years old, but I just think he's precious. And I have for a long time. However, not a fan of his new look with the crazy hair and double earrings and tattoos. Biebz is trying to grow up too fast... but I still have to include him!

Chace Crawford
via
I started watching Gossip Girl about 3 years ago, and Nate Archibald has always be my favorite. He's just... so... pretty. So of course, Chace Crawford made the list.

Ryan Gosling
via
I will admit... I used to hate The Notebook, not as much now. However, I just love Ryan Gosling in Crazy, Stupid Love (one of my favorite movies, ever). The scene with Emma Stone where they do the Dirty Dancing scene? Hilarious. Also, I love the "Hey Girl" Ryan Gosling spoofs. We have a particularly funny joke running in which my campus minister told us was doing a lesson and told us it was okay to leave our boyfriends for Ryan Gosling... when he actually meant the exact opposite. So we don't let him live that mistake down.

John Krasinski
via
I've been obsessed with Jim Halpert for I don't know how long. When I see John Krasinski, I think Jim Halpert. I wish I knew him in real life.

Channing Tatum.
via
Even from his days in She's the Man and Step Up, I've loved Channing. Then in The Vow, I'm all like, "I wouldn't complain if I woke up married to Channing Tatum!". And Magic Mike... YES.

Honorable Mention goes to...

Jake Owen

Zac Efron

Mark Foster (of Foster the People)

Who are your not-so-secret celebrity crushes? Will I have to fight you for any of these guys?!

my little glimpse of the "real world"!

Hola bloggy friends! This is the part where I apologize (once again) for being a slacker and not blogging for [10] days. whoops. This sounds ridiculous, especially since I love blogging so much, but I am on the computer all day for work and when I get home at 5:30 all I want to do is flop onto the couch and do nothing! Who would have thought just sitting there for 7-8 would make me so exhausted?! On that note.. it's time to fill you in on...

MY BIG GIRL INTERNSHIP!

My friends and family that read this know the extreme struggle it took to get to this point. I began interviewing and applying to internships in January- I submitted applications, when to interviews, and just had no luck.

There was that one time I never heard back from a firm when I sent in an application.
 RUDE.
There was that one time I interviewed and the head of the firm "forgot" to contact me and tell me she gave the internship to a college graduate until my mom ran into her one day and (politely) called her out on it.
AWKWARD.
Then there was that one time I interviewed for the dream non-profit intern position (though unpaid) and then came to find out the woman who interviewed me stepped down and the organization was a little shambly...
WHOOPS.

Then, the Friday afternoon before exam week (yes, cutting it close, people), I saw a posting for a communications internship position at a fairly large local non-profit, and I freaked. I wrote my cover letter and sent in my resume that very day (keep in mind I had a ZTA function that afternoon and still managed to have fun and fulfill my big girl pre-internship duties!)

I got a call during exam week to come in for an interview. I loved the organization right away, and found out that my would-be boss was a Wofford graduate! I left the interview fairly confident, but still nervous due to my constant failure in the employment department. I was all,

"SOMEONE hire me....please....
I'll do whatever you want for some resume sparkle
and a little extra Target spending money!!!!"

Well, after months of rejection and worrying, all my wishin' and hopin' and especially prayin' paid off, and I was offered the internship! I'm finishing up week 3 and have worked harder than I ever imagined and learned so many things about PR, marketing, and communications in general that I never would have in the classroom, and for that I am so thankful for this opportunity.

Now that I'm where I need to be, at least for the summer, I can't help but look back and laugh at my constant worry. God has His own timing, and this past semester was a smack in the face with that reminder. Things didn't go "my way" for the longest time. Andrew was gone, I wasn't getting hired, and more, and I was confused and constantly asking God, "Why? When will by 'my time'?" And here I am.

Now, work isn't all butterflies and glitter, but I love who I work with and what I'm learning. This is my first glimpse into the "real world" and it's a little scary, but I think I kind of like it.

celebrate good times!

This weekend was one of lost of celebrations! Remember this post asking what I should wear for my birthday celebration?! Well... I was able to celebrate my 21st out on the town with my girlfriends and this outfit won:

hey. I'm awkward.
top: Forever 21.
colored jeans: "Ralph" by Ralph Lauren.
wedges: Lucky brand

Some of my closest friends joined me for dinner in downtown Greenville and a night at the Marriott downtown at Falls Park! We had fun hanging out downtown and enjoying a fun, fruity drink or two! I am so thankful to have these wonderful girls in my life to celebrate another great year with me!

The whole group!
hey sistas!

more pretty friends!
The next night I was able to celebrate the wedding of a dear church friend of mine, Will, to the beautiful Christine! They have been dating since freshman year of high school (just over 7 years now!) and are one of the sweetest couples I know. Their wedding was beautiful and I could not be happier for them! The reception was fun catching up with all my church friends since we are all at different schools for the most part!

This is Will and I the summer after his junior and my sophomore year of high school.
I can't believe how time flies and that he's a married man now!!!
We're all grown up!
Smith sister picture tradition!

The fam celebrating the new Mr. and Mrs. Will Davis!
I had forgotten how much I love weddings! I had such a blast dressing up and taking part in Will and Christine's special day as they celebrated a new life together through a special ceremony and worship service. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend of good times as well!

life lately.

I must admit, I have been a bit slack in the blogging world and I do apologize. It seems as if I have a bit of catch up to do... if you are following me on Instagram or Twitter, this may all be old news but thought I'd just catch ya'll up (of course, mostly via Instagram!) before I get on a consistent blogging schedule again!

Lately I....

...got a haircut! Cute selfie, right?! I cut about 3 inches off and couldn't love it more!!

...visited Morehead City, NC with my family and our family friends! Check out this precious mailbox I found.. go Wofford Terriers!

... took a few outfit pics in attempts of doing an OOTD post for this past week... fail. But here are the few I did get!

....visited my friend Cameron and finally met sweet baby Thomas! Isn't he the absolute cutest?!

... STARTED MY INTERNSHIP!! I cannot wait to share with ya'll more about it once I have another week or so under my belt. It will be challenging but I am so excited for the opportunity! And I love my desk area... I will take any tips on how to make it look snazzy! :)

Thank you for bearing with me as I try to get back into a schedule! How's your life been lately?!
